Drone Vulnerability and Risk Assessment

Spot hidden threats. Expose critical weaknesses. Stay one step ahead.

Learn how to identify drone vulnerabilities, assess real-world threats, and reduce risks before they turn into costly incidents. Gain practical skills to strengthen security, protect critical assets, and make smarter decisions in high-risk environments.

What you will be able to do

What is up there

Establish a baseline of actual activity over a site rather than a generic threat catalog.

What it can reach

Map the assets an observed aircraft could reach, and the positions it could reach them from.

Where it breaks

Find the point at which detection, procedure or authority fails during a real incursion.

What to do first

Produce a prioritized, costed, vendor-neutral set of recommendations.

Six modules. $349. Assessment training does not confer authority to disrupt, disable, seize or otherwise mitigate an aircraft.

1

Module 1: History, Evolution, and Operational Doctrine of UAS & Drone Warfare

Covers the historical evolution of uncrewed platforms, from early military precedents like the 1918 Kettering Bug and the 1982 Bekaa Valley operation to modern peer-vs-peer combat doctrines.

2

Module 2: Technical Architecture, Flight Physics, & RF Spectrum

Deconstructs multi-jurisdictional drone taxonomy (DoD Groups 1 to 5, FAA Part 107/89, NATO STANAG), flight controller avionics, closed-loop sensor fusion, digital Electronic Speed Controllers (ESCs), and RF spectrum modulations (FHSS, OFDM).

3

Module 3: Threat Vectors, Attack Modalities, & Adversary TTPs

Analyzes physical kinetic attack vectors (such as thermite payloads and custom airframes), high-density breach formations, airborne cyber exploit payloads (rooftop Wi-Fi Evil Twin attacks and SDR interception), and GNSS jamming/spoofing.

4

Module 4: Detection and Sensors

Details passive detection modalities (RF direction finding, micro-Doppler acoustic arrays, EO/IR optics), active 3D FMCW/AESA radar physics (including the fourth-root Radar Cross Section range law), Level 1 to 3 sensor data fusion, and FAA Part 89 Remote ID packet structures.

5

Module 5: Legal Frameworks, Federal Regulations, & Mitigation Boundaries

Examines FAA navigable airspace preemption (49 U.S.C. § 40103), federal felony prohibitions under Title 18 and Title 47 regarding active interdiction (Aircraft Sabotage Act, Wiretap Act, CFAA), statutory exemptions under 6 U.S.C. § 124n, and the SAFER SKIES Act.

6

Module 6: DVRA Methodology, Layered Architecture, & Program Execution

Establishes the Drone Vulnerability and Risk Assessment (DVRA) methodology: 2-Mile Area of Awareness spatial baselining, CARVER target matrix profiling, NIST 5x5 quantitative risk scoring, 360-degree concentric defense design, and tactical field drills (SCAN protocol).

Who this course is for

  • Security and operations personnel responsible for a site's air domain.
  • Law enforcement, fire, EMS and corrections personnel who may be first on scene.
  • Investigators and incident commanders who need the vocabulary before an incident, not during one.
  • Anyone evaluating whether to commission an assessment for their own site.

What you receive

  • An eight-hour CPE program delivered across six modules.
  • A formal examination covering the course material.
  • A ClearPoint Aero Certificate of Completion with a verifiable Certificate ID.

Course completion does not confer the DVRA credential or authority to disrupt, disable, seize or otherwise mitigate an aircraft.

CPE acceptance depends on your professional program. Confirm its requirements before claiming credit.

What this course is not

This is ClearPoint training. It is not certification from the FBI National Counter-UAS Training Center.

It does not confer authority to disrupt, disable, seize or otherwise mitigate an aircraft. ClearPoint does not mitigate.

It is not a product demonstration. ClearPoint holds no hardware line, and no module recommends a vendor.

How this relates to a ClearPoint engagement

ClearPoint runs drone vulnerability and risk assessments as an engagement for critical infrastructure sites. This course teaches the same method. Learn it and run it at your own site, or have ClearPoint run it and document the result.

Common questions

Do I need a Part 107 remote pilot certificate to take this course?

No. The course covers assessment method, not flight operations. Any flight activity remains subject to the rules that apply to that operation.

Do we need counter-UAS equipment before this is useful?

No. The method establishes what a site actually needs before equipment is selected. Running an assessment before a purchase is the point of it.

Is this the certification my agency needs to act against a drone?

No. This course is ClearPoint training. It is not certification from the FBI National Counter-UAS Training Center and confers no authority to mitigate a drone.

How is this different from hiring ClearPoint to run a DVRA?

The course teaches the method so your own people can apply it. An engagement is ClearPoint running the method at your site and leaving a documented result. Entry is possible either way.

Can an organization enroll several people?

For several learners, email training@clearpointaero.com with your organization name and the number of people you want to enroll. ClearPoint can confirm the seat arrangements and payment options before you enroll.
